This is a case of turning a member’s organisation into a challenger co-op.
ProVision was established over 25 years ago by Optometry Australia to ensure that independent optometry would remain an important and thriving part of Australia’s optometry landscape. Why? So that you and every Australian would have valuable choice when selecting who would care for your eyes and vision.
But being an independent is no easy task when you are competing against Goliaths like SpecSavers and Luxottica. In Australia, these two dominate the market in both distribution and scale. Meaning they have the competitive advantage in both convenience and price.
Today ProVision has 450 member optometrists located in every Australian State and Territory, and are spread throughout every major city including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra as well as many regional centres. It’s through independents coming together that they can compete and win.
ProVision’s ambition is simple. To unite all independent optometrists in Australia to compete against the corporate Goliaths.
ProVision isn’t the only independent co-op in town. So the challenge was to become the only one independent’s wanted to join from start-up to sell-up.
The truth.
“The narrative, at least around the corporates, is that there’s no future for independent Optometrists”
Steve Johnston, CEO ProVision
The rumour of the independent’s death has been greatly exaggerated.
Yes, there are fewer independent optometrists than there used to be. But the untold truth is, well-run independents are treasure troves of success. That regardless how big and ubiquitous the corporate chains are, independent optometrists can be very successful businesses.
Hell, if the independents worked together, they would out size the big chains easily.
The barrier wasn’t ability. It was confidence.
The Breakthrough Strategy
ProVision has a clear and powerful role to play.
It’s to turn the desire of optometrists to have independence and freedom into a business.
To turn optometrists from just clinicians, into entrepreneurs.
We would turn ProVision from a membership organisation into an accelerant. A team and organisation obsessed with powering the potential of all Australian independent optometrists.
Brand Idea.
